11 held after brawl at Hitler’s birthplace

Two people were injured and 11 youths were arrested when Rightists and Leftists clashed outside Adolf Hitler’s birthplace at the weekend.
The police said that about 200 people, mostly tourists, gathered outside the house to watch a planned rally by a United States-based neoNazi group to mark Hitler’s birthday on April 20, 1889. “About 30 or 40 young Leftists and Rightists started fighting and 11 arrests were made,” a police spokesman said.
The Austrian Interior I' :- istry said security was tig ened along the border with West Germany to prevent neo-Nazis attending the projected rally. Scores of police reinforcements were drafted to Braunau to prevent the rally, illegal under Austrian law!! taking place. The police said the situation was normal before the clash and that they were taken by surprise. “The only abnormal thing today was about 200 tourists who came to look at the rally,” a spokesman said.
