Forest Service posts

I he forest Service has announced two senior appointments. Mr M. R. Hoskmg has been named assistant director for production and forest management, and Mr 1. G. Trotman will be assistant director of environmental forestry. Mr Hosking. who is 36. joined the Forest Service in 1961 as a technical trainee. He then studied at Victoria University. Wellington. and the University of Wales, graduating B.Sc. (forestry) with honour:- in 1967. On returning to New Zealand he worked in the Auckland Conservancy Office and the Maramarua State Forest, before transferring to the Wellington Forest Economics Division where he prepared the 1972 national forestry planning model He worked in Peru for two years on a technical co-operation programme organised by the New Zealand and Peruvian governments. Mr Trotman. who is 38, joined the Forest Service as a trainee in 1959. he worked part-time studying for a B.Sc. After graduating he spent a year in the economics sections at the Forestry Research Institute before going to Edinburgh to study for forestry qualifications. On his return to New Zealand he was appointed district forester in Hawke’s Bav. and in 1970

transferred as working plans officer. In 1973, he was awarded a State Sen ices Commission nursarj. tor studies in public administration. and a diploma in public administration for a research essay on perceptions of forest policy and its implementation. Mr Trotman recently returned from two years in Western Samoa as chief forest officer, where his responsibilities included implementing a big re-af-forestation project which is being assisted under the New Zealand bilateral aid progamme.
