Sth Korean P.M. to visit N.Z.

PA Wellington The opportunities for more trade between New Zealand and South Korea will be fully explored when the South Korean Prime Minister (Mr Choi Kyu Hah) arrives in Wellington on May 3. The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) said last evening that North Asia was an area of increasing importance to New Zealand. Mr Choi’s visit would strengthen this country’s relationship with “one of the most dynamic countries in the region.” Mr Muldoon said South Korea’s rapidly growing economy offered expanding

opportunites to New Zealand exporters. In the year ended last December, the value of New Zealand exports to South Korea totalled S76M — up more than 90 per cent on 1977.

Mr Choi’s mission to Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia will be more than just a chat about trade. Diplomatic sources in Wellington said he was keen to strengthen backing in this part of the world for South Korea’s continued identity over North Korea. Mr Choi will first visit Australia, and is due in Indonesia on May 6 after visaing New Zealand.
