Vets dislike pay offer
A pay offer to meat industry veterinarians by the State Services Commission was not very satisfactory, said the general secretary of the Public Service Association (Mr W. E. B. Tucker) last evening. The latest offer is one of several the commission has made to meet a pay claim by the vets. The vets, employed by the
Ministry of Agriculture, have made the claim to restore relativity with meat inspectors and as compensation for increased responsibilities. The increase in responsibility resulted from tighter hygiene and killing requirements. Veterinarians are now responsible for all stock movement through freezing works.
Veterinarians in Christchurch earlier this month agreed to support direct action for the pay claim.
