Lincoln appointment
Dr R. S. Swift, a lecturer) in soil science at the Edin-| burgh School of Agriculture,! has been appointed professor! of soil science at Lincoln! College. Dr Swift has been at Edin-! burgh since 1974. From 19711 ito 1973 he was the Lever-' hulme research fellow at the | University of Manchester’s, radiological protection service. and before that he was! a post-doctoral fellow in the' soil science and plant nutri-1 ition department at the University of Western Australia.
rj His main research has in- ■ | eluded study of the chemical .land physical properties of toil r!organic matter, and its rolo i in maintaining soil fertility land structure. He has also -!worked on plant nutrients. 11 Dr Swift, who has a Bach- ■ elor of Science degree with : honours, and a doctorate s from Birmingham University. ■ will take up his new job at s the end of this year. He will ('replace Professor T. W • Walker, who has held the ■ chair of soil science at Lin- . I coin for 15 years.
