OPOSSUM SKINS DEARER STILL
The opossum skin boom continues. After the sale in Dunedin in February it was reported that prices had peached the highest -levels ever attained. At the latest sale at the end of last month prices Were higher still.
According to Mr S. M. Dyet, wool manager of Dalgetys, which conducted the sale, there was an .offering -of 129,000 skins, with a larger percentage than normal being third and fourth grade skins as a result of being caught early. A full bench of buyers was in attendance 'and bidding was extremely animated and widespread on all types. The market was quoted as being a good 20 per cent dearer than in February, which was said to be dramatic considering the type of skins in the sale.
The top price was 517.70 compared with $l5 31 in February.
The average price for the large grades was $9.33 against $9.26 tn February and for the medium to large $6.19 compared with $5.58 in February. The over-all average was $5.81 compared with $5.39 in Februarv.
