W. Skelton for Singapore
PA Wellington Bill Skelton is to ride in Singapore. The Levin-based rider will leave New Zealand on Sunday week and is expected to have his first ride in Ipoh on May 5. His last day of riding in New Zealand will be at Awapuni on Anzac Day. Because of travel commitments, he will not be at Hastings for the second day of that meeting. Skelton is going to Singapore to join the leading stable of Dr John and Alex Rogers, a father and son combination. It is the same stable that employed his youngest brother, Max, who would probably still be there but for the accident that curtailed his career so abruptly. Bill Skelton will be the third New Zealand jockey tn Singapore. He will join Noel Harris and Bruce Comptom, both of whom have been having a good deal of success. Skelton, though will ride solely for the Rogers stable and outside horses cleared In them. Skelton has won more than 960 races, a New Zealand record. but leaves after a frustrating run in which hi has lacked riding opportunities. He has however, had 42 winning rides this
