Attractive work by Springtide

PA Auckland Springtide hinted an improvement in her form in the Great Northern Oaks tomorrow when she ran a solid trial over 1600 m at Takanini this morning. Much could not be timed because of fog. The No. 1 grass was in use. It was in good order but it cut out during the session.

Springtide worked by herself over 1600 m in Imin 48s, coming home over the last 800 m in 53.85. She finished the gallop strongly and has to be considered tomorrow.

Calpurnicus turned in the best time for 1600 m — Imin 45.65. He picked up his stablemate, Chiefy, at the 800 m, but no sectional times could be taken. Calpurnicus was full of running at the finish and is bound to be hard to beat in the Oliver Nicholson Handicap. Legends, a candidate for the Ellerslie Sires’ Produce Stakes, was shading Cotton Candy at the end of 1200 m in Imin 20s. A race rival, Tiger Jones, turned in a good trial when he ran 1200 m in Imin 20.25, the final 600 m in 41s. He will start at Ellerslie instead of i Hastings.
