No Tasman settlement
PA Rotorua The 60 Tasman pulp and paper electrical workers who began an indefinite strike at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, did not return to work yesterday. Late yesterday afternoon, Electrical Workers Union representatives and Tasman management were discussing the dispute. A Union spokesman said that the electricians had called their strike “to retain margins for skill and responsibility.” The striking men met yesterday morning to consider the matters discussed on Wednesday between them and the company under the chairmanship of an industrial conciliator, Mr F. Gerbic, Auckland. The public relations officer of the Tasman company (Mr S. W. Reidpath) said that any undue prolongation of the strike would result in other parts of the mill being affected.
