setting for bar
A home bar does not have to be elaborate, nor does it need a spacious room. Mr Frank Ridding, shown here behind his bar in his home in Aranui began his bar with a wooden framework and cupboard space behind which cost him $l5. Using old foam rubber as padding, and then covering it with vinyl, his wife, Joy, completed it, except for a Formica top which came later. The lounge in which the bar sits is an averagesized room for a modern home, and the bar does not obtnude. The bar can be moved for cleaning, or to give a different angle. Mirrors were added to the walls and the Riddings have decorated the shelves with miniatures they have collected over the years, including some exoticsounding liqueurs and
spirits brought from overseas by friends and rarely seen in New Zealand. If someone is fortunate encugh to get some travellers’ samples like ice buckets, tongs, water jugs and ashtrays, as the Riddings have been, then a home bar can take on a professional touch without expense.
