Fish farming
Sir, — The repeated bleats of a materialistic minority for trout fanning tend to be monotonous. Although there are well-documented facts from other countries on the conflict between public sporting fisheries and trout farming, I see no economic reasons for trout farming. Mr Isaacs has admitted the export potential is nil and on the farming session National Radio revealed that farm trout would retail at $lO a kilogram. This is verified by the Takaka salmon farm marketing its fish at a similar price. Why project an industry of marginal economics, with no export potential and a luxury-priced product 99 per cent of New Zealanders could not afford? — Yours, etc., TONY ORMAN. April 17, 1979.
