Navy officer charged

PA Auckland An officer who was in charge of a Navy vessel which sank during the recovery of the crashed Flit in the Hauraki Gulf last November on Wednesday faced a naval Court Martial Sub-Lieutenant John Bernard Pope pleaded not guilty to two charges: that on November 8 by negligence he caused the vessel Meola to be hazarded and that by negligence he damaged the vessel by causing it to strike a shoal in the Motuihe channel.
