Police seek gang men
PA Auckland Two youths travelling in a truck had the presence of mind to jot down the registration numbers of motorcycles of several members of a gang which attacked them at Silverdale. The Whangaparoa police i say this has been of great assistance in trying to track down the gang members they say are responsible for the incident which occurred as the two Auckland youths were travelling north along the East Coast Road.
The youths complained to the police that they had been assaulted with 'motorcycle helmets and the butt of a shotgun, which they had been using to keep the gang members at bay. A police spokesman said it was believed the 10 or 11 gang members, riding on eight or nine motor-cycles were members of the Hell’s Angels. They believed only one of the gang members had assaulted the two youths, and it was possible this man had been riding one of the vehicles reported by the com- ; plainants. I During the incident the jtwo youths' noted the numjbers and brief descriptions iof some of the gang mem-
bers. The police were now checking these, and had so far traced one of the gang members. The police think that most of the members involved may live on the North Shore.
The Takapuna and Whangaparoa police report no progress in the investigation over the weekend, and say it could be some days before the inquiry proceeds any further. A spokesman said, “It has been a great help to us having these numbers, but it is very difficult obtaining information from any gang members we contact.”
