I Canterbury squash will! I lose a popular and proficient] i player when Mike Grant! transfers from Christchurch! Ito Auckland early next! j week. I Formerly a prominent] ;member of Christchurch club] jA grade teams, Grant has] [spent the last two seasons, | boosting the emerging Lin-1 [wood club which entered the] top division for the first] I time in 1977. > He was No. 5 on the Canterbury ranking list in the 1974 season, during which he was a member of the provincial team for the national inter-district championships at Hamilton. For a number of years Grant was the Canterbury junior co-ordinator and managed provincial junior teams in tournaments away. In recent seasons Grant
has often been troubled by I injuries and his form hasj not always been as good as he would like, but he has) still often been a formidable) opponent with the ability to I hit a stream of winners. I During the 1977 season he' held six match balls before; losing to the Canterbury No. 1, Rod Hayes, in an A grade; match. Mr Les Milne, the con-; vener of the Canterbury se-l lectors, says he regarded Grant’s forte as his strong wrist which allowed him to! hit very effective low, short) cross-court drives. Grant is transferring to a| bank in Takapuna and may) play squash for the big North Shore club where anj old acquaintance, Ray Moreton (the former All Blackj midfield back), is the presi-j dent. )
