Israelis intercept border raiders
NZPA Tel Aviv Six Palestinian guerrillas and one Israeli soldier were killed late on Monday night in a clash near the Lebanese border when the guerrilla band tried to enter Israel, an Israeli Army spokesman has announced.
The Army said six Israelis were wounded in the battle, which began about 11p.m. near Zarit, an Israeli border village I9km from the Mediteranean coast.
First reports said seven guerrillas had been killed, but the Army said the guerrilla band consisted of only
six members and all were killed. It was the second attempt bv Palestinian guerrillas in 48 hours to penetrate Israel's borders. On Easter morning an Israeli patrol killed four guerrillas who crossed the Jordan River into Israel. There were no Israeli casualties in that raid. The Israeli who died in the latest incident was the first Israeli soldier reported killed in action since last June 9. when two commandos died during a seaborne raid on a Palestinian training base on the Lebanese coast.
