Council-merger meeting
A special meeting of the 1 Lyttelton Borough Council i will be held on April 30 to: discuss amalgamation with j the Heathcote and Mount] Herbert county councils. Borough councillors agreed last evening that “a possible merger should be . discussed i in committee around the table.” The Town Clerk (Mr B. A. Hillitr) said this was necessary because he had received correspondence from the Mount Herbert County Coun- • cil contradicting recent news- ! paper reports.

water supply will be held in abeyance by the council. This decision was reached after the tabling of a letter from the Dental Association. Cr W. S. Tredinnick warned against a hasty decision. “This sort of thing [could cause a referendum in this area,” he said.
