Stowaways jailed

NZPA Perth Four women, discovered as stowaways aboard a container ship, were each jailed by an Australian court for three weeks, yesterday. The Fremantle Court was told that Betty Donegan, Ruth Hamilton, Christine Duggan and Sylvia Harper were discovered in cabins in the Jervis Bay on Sunday morning in Fremantle Harbour.

Two of the women were believed to have boarded the ship at Wellington, and two are thought to have stowed away at Melbourne. All pleaded guilty to offences under section 104 of the Navigation Act, which deals with stowing away aboard a vessel.
