Aid for Meli victims

The North Canterbury I branch of the New Zealand Save The Children Fund has given $lOOO to help Fijian child victims of hurricane Meli. The money came from a profit of $llOO on a mannequin parade last week at the Chateau Regency. The gift will supplement the $16,000 sent each year to Fiji by the New Zealand organisation. Most of this (goes to the Fiji crippled children's home at Hilton House, Suva. Some of the money will also be used to buy milk I : powder and medical supplies for Fijian organisations.

Hilton House cares for! deaf, blind, and crippled • children whose families live too far away to bring their children for daily visits. The money will go towards staff, equipment, and repairs. The New Zealand Save The I Children Fund also has an extensive sponsorship scheme in Fiji, and the North Canterbury branch is seeking sponsors who will give $l5 for School Certificate I* and University Entrance II fees required by Fijian I children. I Full sponsorships, which I provide education and physical necessities cost $lOO a ' year.
