Fisherman drowns
PA Dunedin] A man drowned in a boat-i ing accident at the mouth of) the Catlins River, south; Otago, yesterday. He was Alan Bagrie Melvin, aged 51, manager of the South Otago Hotel, Balclutha. The boat was overturned: about 10 a.m. when Mr Melvin, his son. and his son-in-law were returning up river; after fishing out at sea. i They were thrown over-j board when waves at the. mouth of the river swamped: their boat. The two younger; men managed to swim to shore but Mr Melvin did not reach it. He was not wearing a lifejacket. A search party found hisi body about 12.30 p.m.
