Random runner
One of the Christchurch Harrier Club's best known runners, who trains regularly round Hagley Park from the Y.M.C.A. headquarters in Hereford Street, is Kevin Leitch (showm above). Leitch, who formerly played senior rugby for the Petone Club in Wellington, is one of the growing numbers of veteran (over 40) runners who are making their presence felt in road and cross-country events. He will be among many athletes who will take part in “The Press” Park-to-Park run on May 6. Like many other experienced runners, he will use the run as a social outing and will stay back to give guidance to and help the pace judgment of newcomers to running keen to make their debut
in the Park-to-Park event. Leitch, who has been chosen as today’s random runner, will receive a free T-shirt from “The Press” and a free entry to the Park-to-Park run as the guest of “The Press.” “The Press” will publish regular random runner photographs which will carry the same privileges. Entry forms for the Park-to-Park run can be obtained from the Cathedral Square office of “The Press” or from an advertisement on page 5 of this issue.
All entries will participate in a draw for a free trip for two with Air New Zealand to Australia to run in the Sydney City to Surf run in August. All proceeds from the Park-to-Park run go to community health projects.
