'Roots’
“Roots,” the highly, acclaimed American television epic of black history, will be shown in Christchurch for the first time tomorrow.
Because it did not appear on New Zealand television, the United States International Communication Agency’s local American l Centre has brought it here for a one-time showing at the University of Canterbury’s Ngaio Marsh Theatre, starting at 10 a.m. Admission to the screening is free. It will run for 10 hours, with lunch and dinner breaks.
“Roots” is based on the best-selling novel by Alex Haley, and “Roots II” appeared in America this year.
