Woman fined on drug charges
Carol Christine Banks, aged 26, a former woman bus driver, convicted on charges of possessing cannabis for supply and of cultivating the drug, was fined $lOO by Mr B. A. Palmer, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
She was also placed on probation for 18 months and ordered to carry out 140 hours of community work. The Magistrate said he accepted there had been no direct evidence produced which indicated the defend-
ant intended to supply the drug to anybody. He had also taken into account that the quality of the cannabis was suspect in certain material respects. Having been told bj’ counsel (Mr S. C. Barker) that since last week’s defended hearing his client had been dismissed by the Christchurch Transport Board, the Magistrate said, it would be unrealistic to impose a heavier fine.
