Newcomers to league squad
Three players who have made particularly promising starts to the inter-club season, Kerry Corkran (Sydenham), Derek McLaughlan (Eastern Suburbs-Hertz), and Cliff Leney (Linwood), have been promoted to the Canterbury Rugby League squad for the match against Wellington at Wellington on April 24. They will fill the plates left vacant by the withdrawals of Alan Rushton (Eastern), ■ Terry Gillman and Kevin Franklin (both MaristWestern Suburbs). Corkran, one of the most mobile hookers in the premier grade, and McLaughlan, whose play is rather remi-
niscent of his accomplishes club-mate, Barry Edkins, have, in turn, been replacet, in the Canterbury B side by Wayne Jeffs (Eastern) ant David Baxter (Halswell).
The versatile Leney is < former New Zealand 17 years representative whe would have made his firstclass debut two years age but for an injury which pre vented him from travelling to Brisbane with the Canter 'bury Amco Cup team. Mr Trevor Bisman, the Canterbury coach, said thai the final composition of the side would not be announcet until a few days before the game at Wellington.
