Coast coal survey
Greymouth reporter A start had been made on an evaluation of West Coast coal resources as part o r the Government’s national coal resources
survey, said the Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) at the annual conference of the Private Coal Mine Proprietors’ Federation in Greymouth. - "The Grey coalfield will be explored first, with initial emphasis on targets for high-qualitv coking cpal. About SIM will be spent during this financial year. When the investigation is complete the Government will be in a stronger position to plan the orderly development, including export possibilities, of the West Coast’s coal resources. “Proving such resources could provide a big boost to the economy of the West Coast,” said Mr Birch.
