Employment scheme
An employment scheme is being organised for seasonally laid-off freezing workers in Wairarapa. The proposed scheme, announced by the member of Parliament for Pahiatua (Mr J. H. Falloon), results from the seasonal lay-off of freezing workers and is a result of discussions held between Borthwick’s management, the Labour Department, and the Meat Workers’ Union, and members of Parliament. It involves the management of the Waingawa works acting as an employment agent for out-of-work meat workers. The details of the scheme have not yet been approved by the Government.
