NZPA-Reuter Oklahoma City Tornadoes which struck north Texas and southwest Oklahoma on Tuesday night left up to 50 dead and 600 injured, said police in the two states yesterday. A tornado which struck Wichita Falls, Texas, near the Oklahoma border, devastated 16 blocks of that city of about 100,000 people. A spokesman for the Texas disaster emergency

services in the capital of Austin said an estimated 400 people were injured in Wichita Falls, and between 12 and 24 were killed. The tornado tore through two shopping areas, a block of flats, a university, and several residential areas. Power lines were cut and the National Guard was called in. In the small town of Vernon, Texas, between 50 and 57 were injured and 12 died. State troopers were called out.
