Standards mark misused

PA Wellington Moffat Appliances had agreed to ensure the correct use of the Standards mark in future, said the director of the Standards Association (Mr D. R. M. Pinfold). Mr Pinfold recently visited the factdry of Moffat Appliances in Christchurch to examine certification procedures, after the distribution of about 100 unlicensed electric ranges with the Standards mark incorrectly applied. The mark may be used only on licensed products.

“It was obviously not a deliberate attempt to mislead purchasers,” said Mr Pinfold. Moffat Appliances had satisfactorily explained how the mistake occurred, but the company had been asked to remove immediately the Standards mark from all unauthorised 411SG models on the market and to submit to the association for reapprdval its new procedures for the proper handling of the Standards mark.
