Square incident

A disturbance in Cathedral Square last Thursday evening involved three members of two Christchurch gangs. It was incorrectly reported in "The Press” of last Friday that, the incident, which occurred soon after 10 p.m. and in which one man was injured, had been a clash between members of the Mongrel Mob and the Black Power gang. The incident had involved one member of the Mongrel Mob and two members of the Epitaph Riders motor-cycle gang, said Inspector M. K. J. Tarling, of the Christchurch police. The member of the Mongrel Mob had been injured, and the two other men had been charged with assault. said Inspector Tarling. Inspector Tarling said yesterday that the incident had been discussed with all three, gangs. He was satisfied that they were treating it as an isolated incident from which there would be no repercussions from gang members.
