Food rises expected

Cakes, biscuits, icecream, and confectionary are almost sure to be dearer within the next month. Butter, sugar, and milk have all risen in price this month and accountants for several big food firms are now decididng how much the prices of various products containing these commodities will be raised.

The general manager of General Foods in Auckland, Mr R. Fyfe, said yesterday that apart from the increase in the price of butter, milk, and sugar, packaging costs had risen recently. All these factors would come in to a decision on price rises, which would probably be made within a month.
