Saintly Girl strong
Special corres. Invercargill Saintly Girl turned in a fine solo gallop when Riverton candidates completed their semi-final trials at Invercargill yesterday. Saintly Girl, a winner at the corresponding meeting at Riverton last Easter, ran pleasingly at the Wyndham barrier trials earlier this month and looks close to worth-while form. Yesterday, Saintly Girl ran 800 m, 35ft out on the course proper, in 51.85, the last 600 m in 36.25. This was the fastest time of the morning on a dead track which was greasy on top after light rain.
Saintly Girl will come up against a strong field in the : Longwood Handicap on Sat- ■ urday. Saintly Girl’s stablemate, Lady Auburn, was another to impress as she stretched out over 600 m in 38s, the last ■ 400 m in 265. Kerry Lee, which comes in fresh for the Riverton Cup, gave Tiva four lengths start approaching the 1000 m and quickened to finish on terms with her race rival in Imin 7s, the last 800 m in 54.35. Saltbrush, Christian John, and Great Imagination, all Taramea Handicap rivals, finished on terms at the end
of 1000 m in Imin 7s, the lasi 800 tn in 555.
The Riverton Cup topweight, Miles Better, worked strongly from the 2000 m and was two lengths behind his stablemate, Harold Wilson, at the 1000 m but finished on terms in Imin 8.55, the last 800 m in 55.65.
Lady Carolyn finished clear of Corrie Guy and Gold Bow, ending 600 m in 395. Lady Carolyn will contest the Visitors’ Handicap on Saturday. Jack Dugan completed a round with 600 m in 435, the closing 400 m in 28.45. He was galloped on at Beaumont last Saturday but his injury is not serious.
