New owners and a new career
Tudor House has new owners and a new career facing it. For the last 10 years, the distinctive Tudor-style house, about 100 km south of Christchurch, housed antiques brought to New Zealand by the original owners, Mr and Mrs R. Turton. Tudor House has now become the property of Mike and Pam Vickers who came to New Zealand nearly seven years ago from England. They intend to run it as tea rooms with their own unique stvle. The house was built by Bob Turton and completed in 1969 shortly before his death. It was the completion of a dream which started when Mr Turton,
as a boy of 12, built a miniature Tudor house for an exhibition in London. He swore to build a full-sized replica one day and carried out his promise.
The kitchen has been extended and new equipment installed. A pantry and servery have been added and the internal structure upgraded, wherenecessary, to meet, the health regulations.
One modern feature is that both the men’s and women’s toilets have been fitted out so that physically handicapped people can use them. Each has a toilet cabinet large enough to accommodate a wheelchair and they are reached by concrete ramp.
