National Party policy
Sir, — The National Party appears to be dividing into two camps — the Muldoonites and the Chapmanites. To my surprise I find myself on the Prime Minister’s side for once. The “back to basics” philosophy of Mr Chapman appears to me to be a thinly disguised yearning for the nineteenth-cen-tury laissez faire economy — every man for himself
and the devil take the hindmost. The possibility of Muldoonism being superseded by Chapmanism brings home the truth of the ancient adage: “Better the devil you know than one you don’t know.” — Yours, lAN HOOD. April 5, 1979.
