More teams in golf competition
There seems every likelihood that the Woodward
Cup — the Christchurch premier inter-club golf competition — will be increased from eight teams to 10 next year to allow for the inclusion of teams from the Central and North Canterbury areas. Mr G. P. Walker outlined the reasons why Rangiora was excluded from this year’s championship in preference to the higher handicapped Avondale team, to delegates at the annual
meeting of the Canterbury Golf Association last evening. While there was an undercurrent of dissent against the reasons given, the decision was accepted and many
seemed in favour of the two I area teams being accepted
next year. Although a motion that the Peter Stuyvesant club tournament be held on a handicap basis failed, it was agreed that the Canterbury association run a handicap competition in conjunction with the event. Management committea officers elected were:— Messrs R. T. Challis, D. N. Cresswell, T. G. Downey, R. C. Garnett, R. F. Gilbert, B. V. Glubb, J. T, Gregg D. A. Harvey, M. J.
McNally, E. H. M. Richards, F. W. Roberts, M. J. C. Robinson, G. G. Simpson, G. P. Walker, I. M. Wright, G, Lethaby (Central Canterbury) and S. Murray (North Canterbury).
