South Africa and sport
Sir, — Mr Rowling intends to meet Mr Ordia to plead the case that New Zealand not be boycotted in international sport because six of our AH Blacks are playing in South Africa. Mr Rowling will be in Africa this month, I wonder if he has been informed by Trevor Richards, of H.A.R.T., that next month international sailing championships are being held at Durban with competitors from Australia, Canada, France, West Germany, Denmark, England, Sweden, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore and the United States to name but a few. Some of these countries are on Mr Rowling’s itinerary. 1 wonder if he is going to raise the question of their taking part in South African sports? I think it about time we stopped believing the guff put out by H.A.R.T. which would have us believe we are the only country in the world with sporting contacts with South Africa. — Yours, etc T. MITCHELL. April 7, 1979.
