N.Z. product cleared

NZPA Manila New Zealand Dairy products were not used in Filipino-manufactured icecream which caused food poisoning among about 400 persons at Manila, according to New Zealand officials. But, they said, there was evidence that milk powder sold in the Philippines by other countries for use in animal feed was subsequently being sold under a New Zealand label for human use.

The powder for stock feed had been sold in bags market' with the New Zealand emblem, they said. Efforts were being made to make sure that this did not happen again but it was a difficult matter to police. Cases had also been reported of Australian beef being sold as New Zealand beef. The New Zealand Meat Board had asked for a investigation to determine the responsibility for this.
