Women’s bowls title
PA Palmerston North The usually deadly “upshot” of the Matamata bowler, Rhoda Ryan, finally proved her downfall in the final of the Broadlands invitation singles bowls tournamnt in Palmerston North yesterday. Mrs Ryan, the upset winner over the world champion, Elsie Wilkie, in a semi-final, after a sensational last upshot that took her from three down to three-up on the head (the winning shots), finally bowed to the Manawatu bowler, Mrs Joyce Osborne, .21-10, when another upshot iweht wrong.
Her bowls went off th? rink, leaving Mrs Osborn? with the four shots sh( needed to win. But there was more to Mr> Osborne’s win than just ; little bit of luck.
