Situation: A slowly weakening ridge of high pressure extends on to northern New Zealand from the south-east, a shallow depression in the southwest Tasman Sea is moving slowly east, and the associated cold front extends from Lord Howe Island to the west of the South island and is moving steadily southeast; the front is expected to lie from southern New Zealand to just east of Canterbury and over the southern half of the North Island tomorrow afternoon or evening. Forecasts: Canterbury: Moderate north-
easterlies predominating; cloudy and mild; rain in the western ranges and scattered falls elsewhere. Marlborough. Nelson: Northerlies fresh at times; mild and humid with areas of rain; there may be an improvement in Nelson late in the day. Buller, Westland: Northeasterlies fresh at times; mild and humid with areas of rain; possibly an improvement later in the day. Outlook: Possibly a cooler south-west change and a few showers in Canterbury; showers but improving in other districts.
