THE COUNCIL: The council is a Statutory Board established by the Testing Laboratory Registration Act 1972 and its function is essentially to organise and maintain a national laboratory accreditation system covering all scientiifc and engineering disciplines to serve the needs of Government, industry and commerce. In addition the Council is actively engaged in the promotion of good laboratory practice and management and in the upgrading of testing laboratories in New Zealand. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director is responsible to the Council for the efficient management of all aspects of the Council’s work. DUTIES: The Director is the Council’s Chief Executive Officer and the duties include. A Control of a small staff of professional officers and support staff. B Financial control and management of the Council’s affairs. C Continued development of the existing laboratory accreditation system. D Vigorous promotions of all the aims and projects of the Council in its effort to upgrade laboratories and increased recognition of New Zealand Laboratories both at home and abroad. This involves considerable public speaking, writing articles, organising seminars and other educational activities. The work entails considerable travel both within New Zealand and overseas. QUALIFICATIONS: A University degree in Science or Engineering Is absolutely’ essential. In addition the Director is required to have: A Some laboratory experience B Broad knowledge of New Zealand, science and technology, C Exceptional ability to communicate and negotiate with Government and Industry' Leaders and Laboratory Personnel of all levels. D Sound administrative judgment and ability to lead a team of dedicated professional officers. E Ability to establish easy working relationships with a wide range of professional Scientists and Engineers. LOCATION: The Council’s Office is located at 272 Parnell Road, Auckland. SALARY: The Director's salary is determined by the Council in agreement with the Higher Salaries Commission and the current position is offered in the ranee $20,007 to $23,518 p.a.
