University Vacancies THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CAREERS AND APPOINTMENTS OFFICER Applications for the above position are invited from graduates in any discipline. The appointee will have responsibility for the operation of the Careers and Appointments Office. With the assistance of a staff of two, the appointee will be responsible for: (a.) careers counselling (wrth individuals and in groups) with students at all stages of their courses: (b.) organise tion of information services and programmes of activities to help meet the career development and employment seeking needs of university students; (c.) liaison with employers of graduates, other tertiary institutions, schools, etc: <d.i research and investigation into graduate employment opportunities and destinations; (e.) the provision of expert advice to other University staff on career matters; If.) activities designed to help expand the employment market for graduates. The Careers and Appointments Office works in co-operation with a wide range of University staff, and the appointee will need lhe ability to work confidently in that environment. There is a close relationship with other student services, which focus on personal counselling, study skills, and the special needs of part-time and mature students. An interest in careers counselling and substantial work experience in education, industry, commerce, public service or the professions will be necessary. Salary on appointment will be in accordance with qualifications and experience within the range: $19,162 $2l 306 per annum. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance with the possibility of reappointment after review. The successful applicant would be expected to commence as soon as possible. Reasonable appointment expenses are paid. Superannuation benefits are available for applicants who are eligible to contribute. THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY JOHN CURTIN SCHOOL OF MEDICAL RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF IMMUNOLOGY PROFESSORIAL FELLOW Applications are invited for a position of Professorial Fellow in the Department of Immunology, John Curtin School of Medical Research, An appointment will be made to undertake research either in the field of Cancer Biology or in an area of Developmental and Reproductive Immunology, Applicants interested in research into Cancer should have a comprehensive background in Cellular Immunology, particularly in relation to the response of the immune system to cellular antigens. Applicants who have worked in Reproductive Physiology or Developmental Biology should have an interest in foetalmaternal .interactions and in the developmental aspects of the immune system. CLOSING DATE: 31 MAY 1979 RESEARCH SCHOOL OF PACIFIC STUDIES DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN GEOGRAPHY RESEARCH FELLOW Applications are invited fw appointment to the above position which will be available from October 1979. The Department undertakes empirical and theoretical research into the changing spatial structure of Australia, the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia. It is anticipated that the person appointed will have had significant research experience in one or more Third World countries and will propose a continuing programme of research in human geography in Southeast Asia or the Pacific. CLOSING DATE: 13 MAY 1979 SALARY Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience within the range: Professorial Fellow 5A30.713 per annum; Research Fellow: SAISJB6-$A20.606 per annum. The successful applicant will be expected to work in a counselling team which aims to assist staff and students develop their capacities and interests as fully as possible within the University, in particular to help those in difficulties realise their full potential. Counsellors provide: (a.) individual face-to-face counselling and psychotherapy; (b.) group leadership for those interested in a group approach to personal growth with particular emphasis on emotional development and inter-personal relations; (c.) a professional contribution to life at University through consultation with staff and initiation of programmes or research in response to changing Applicants should be graduates, preferably in Psychology or Social Work. Postgraduate or professional training in Counselling or Clinical Psychology is desirable although applicants with other qualifications and professional skills may be considered. Previous experience in tertiary counselling and expertise in some area of group work, would be an advantage. Personal qualities are no less important than academic qualifications. Applicants should have a real ability in relating to students and have a wide range of personal interests.
