Official report, prices

Values for all classes of wool at the Christchurch sale yesterday, were from firm to dearer, according to the official report on the sale issued by the Christchurch Wool Brokers’ Association in conjunction with the Wool Board and the Woolbuyers’ Association. Compared with the Dunedin sale held on March 8, Merino was firm, extra fine and fine halfbred was fully 21 per cent dearer, and medium, strong and extra strong halfbred 5 per cent dearer. Halfbred skirtings and oddments were 21 per cent dearer. Compared with the Auckland . sale held on Thursday, all descriptions of crossbred fleece and second-shear were inclined in seller's favour, with crossbred lots in seller’s favour and cross- 1 bred lambs’ firm. Crossbred skirtings were very firm and oddments in seller's favour. The offering totalling 27,389 bales came mainly from Canterbury and Marlborough, but there was a larger than usual representation from Nelson and the West Coast. i As expected at this near end of season sale, the fleece wools were varied in quality and style and tire baulk of the offering was partly cotted and discoloured. 1 Some' of these wools, although unattractive, were high yielding and made quite high prices when compared with similar qualities , of good style wool. Lambs’ wool made up a large percentage of the offering and this in the main was of good colour and length. Vegetable fault was apparent in some of S the halfbred and Corriedale lambs’ wool. Competition was fairly general,

the main buyers being Western and Eastern Europe supported by Japan and New Zealand mills. The Wool Board gave limited support to the market by bidding on about 21 per cent of the offering. Tlie following is the official range of prices issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association:—
