Australia’s richest race

NZPA Sydney The $250,000 Golden Slipper Stakes for two-year-olds at Rosehill today will be the richest race ever run in Australia. There is no New Zealandbred in the 16-horse field, which is headed by the filly, Lowan Star. The record of Imin 10s for the 1200 m race set by Luskin Star two years ago is expected to come under threat if the track remains fast. Lowan Star will be ridden by the in-form veteran Perth jockey, John Miller, and the trainer. Angus Armanasco, has instructed that she be raced quietly behind the lead in the early stages. Mr Armanasco is convinced that Lowan Star’s blistering finishing speed will carry her to victory. The big danger to her is likely to be the Tom Smithtrained Mighty Kingdom, but others with good claims include Dawn Command and Century Miss.
