Ryal Pont’s game win
Ryal Pont earned favouritism for the $5OOO final of the Sires’ Produce Stakes next Saturday when he held off a determined challenge from El Guago by a neck in his heat last evening. Ryal Pont paced the 2000 m in the smart time of 2min 37.75ec, more than three seconds faster than Royal Lopez in the opening heat. Ryal Pont raced clear ap-
proaching the 800 m, with El Guago moving round the tir- i ing Watbro King. El Guago challenged near the 200 m and there was little between the pair from that point. However, Ryal Pont responded in fine style and won by a neck. Regal Cheval, which ran about in the straight, was a i short length away third, I clear of Don Jaime and Jo- 1 Ivalight. >'
Royal Lopez made most of the pace in his heat and he held off Armbro Star by more than a length. Treasurer came on fairly for third, ahead of Berry Picker and Thurber Globe. The favourite, Wickliffe, | paying $1.40 for a win, was! never travelling well and he was off stride for most of the run home. He finished a i distant sixth.
