N.Z. man killed
NZPA Salisbury A young New Zealand volunteer soldier fighting with Rhodesian forces in the war against black nationalist guerrillas has become the hundredth security force victim of the conflict this year, a military communique has said. Lance-Corporal Martin Overbeek, who was killed in a clash with insurgents, was also one of the latest 37 victims of the war which the guerrillas threaten to intensify in a
bid to wreck the national elections this month.
Lance-Corporal Overbeek, aged 25, single, was from Auckland, the military command reported. As usual, no details were given of where or when he was killed. The communique simply said that his next-of-kin had been informed of his death. He was the 883rd security force victim of a war in which 16,000 people have been killed, most of them civilians and guerrillas.
