Hydatids case reported

One case of hydatids was among the nine suspected infectious diseases reported to the Health Department in Christchurch last week. The Medical Officer of Health in Christchurch (Dr L. F. Jepson) said that the hydatid was reported in an eight-year-old girl on the Chatham Islands. About 15 cases of hydatids a year were reported in New Zealand. Other diseases reported to the Department were three cases of infective hepatitis, two of pulmonary tuberculosis, and one each of meningococcal meningitis, tetanus and shigella dysentery. Dr Jepson said that tetanus was not a common disease, and about one case was reported every six months or so.
