Raglan M.P. to retire
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, August 6. The member of Parliament for Raglan, Mr D. J. Carter, has announced that he will not seek re-election at the next General Election. Mr Carter said in a statement today that he wished to relinquish the position to a younger man and not risk any inefficiency because of age. Last night was a triple occasion for Mr Carter — his sixty-sixth birthday, the anniversary of his first acceptance to stand for the Raglan seat for the National Party, and the night, of his stepping down.
