FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A weakening ridge of high pressure lies across northern New Zealand; a front lying aci’oss the South Island from Fiordland to Otago is expected to move north rather slowly. Forecast: Marlborough.—North-westerlies decreasing ; winds becoming variable and possibly turning to moderate southerlies later; mainly cloudy; some rain developing during the day. Nelson.—Moderate variable winds, mainly northerlies; becoming cloudy, rain developing during the day. Canterbury. — Cool, fresh southerly winds; overcast, and periods of rain. Buller and Westland.—Cool, fresh southeasterlies becoming general; overcast; periods of rain possibly clearing in the south during the day.
