REFUGEE FUNDS

Target may be passed

A first contribution of $30,000 is being sent to East Pakistan to assist with the rehabilitation of refugees, the director of Christian World Service (Mr F. G. Heard) says. This is part of the $70,000 target for Pakistani refugees incorporated in the recent National Council of Churches Christmas appeal. Another $30,000 is being sent from the appeal money to assist general projects in developing- countries.

"Churches and individuals have responded very well to the Christmas appeal, but especially so for Pakistani refugees,” said Mr Heard. “We are sure to reach our target of $70,000 and may well exceed it by a considerable margin. The World Council has called for sBm urgently to help the refugees return to their homelands and to help with their rehabilitation when they arrive. I think their needs have never been greater than they are now, in spite of the political settlement.”
