Official report and range of prices

The official report on yesterday’s Christchurch wool sale, issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission, says:

A total of 21,407 bales were offered, making a total for the aale of 41,933 bales. The wool was again drawn mainly from Canterbury and Marlborough, with smaller quantities from Nelson, the West Coast, and the Chatham islands.

The offering comprised the usual wide range of qualities with Corriedale and halfbred fleece predominating, and with a representative selection of crossbreds and Merino types. These wools were similar In style to the first day’s offering. Compared with Monday’s sale, Merinos were 2j per cent down.

while fine and medium halfbreds were fully 21 to 5 per cent down. Strong and extra-strong halfbreds showed a drop of 5 to 71 per cent. All crossbred types eased 5 to 7j per cent and all skirtings were 2} to 5 per cent easier. Bidding throughout the day was considerably quieter than on Blonday, but with competition more general. The main buying power came from the Continent and Eastern Europe. Bradford was more active than on Monday, and there was also support from Japan and local mills.
