Deutschmark loan

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Jan. 19.

Arrangements are being made through a consortium of international bankers for a deutschmark loan to New Zealand of DMIOO million (about SNZ2S.Bm), the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) announced yesterday. The loan was expected to have an interest rate of 7 per cent, which would be the same as for a recent Australian loan, the Minister said in a statement.

This rate was much lower than would have been the case last year, and followed a recent downward movement in interest rates after the international currency realignment of last December.

The issue price for the loan would be fixed immediately before completion of underwriting arrangements on Friday week, and the Minister • would give further details later.
