COLLINGE HOPEFUL

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The left-arm fast bowler, R. O. Collinge, is optimistic he will be fit enough to make the tour to the West Indies. Collinge was named on Sunday in the New Zealand

team but only on the condition that he passes a fitness test on his Injured left knee. However, Collinge said in Wellington that he would not be absolutely confident until he tried to jog on the knee.

He went for big first run last evening (see photograph) since breaking down in Hamilton last week.

“I have been told to rest the knee and then go for light jobs,” he said. At present, Collinge is able to walk with little discomfort, although the knee aches occasionally. The injury had first occurred when he fell over in the last dub match before Christmas. “I though it was nothing at the time and probably should not have played on it so soon,” he said. “I first started to feel it in the Otago game, and then against Northern Districts it was just no use playing on.”

Collinge said the selectors had not told him when he would have to take his fitness test, nor did he know what form it would take.
